EWF At Home Residencies

INTRODUCING THE 2020 EWF AT HOME RESIDENTS:

We are delighted to announce the recipients of the EWF At Home Residencies!

Congratulations to these talented writers:

  • Sharlene Allsopp
  • Luke Patterson
  • Jessica Paraha
  • Mykaela Saunders
  • Beau Windon
  • Josephine Newman

We had so many wonderful applications and couldn’t possibly keep the final selection to only 4 writers, so we found some extra money to support a total of 6 writers in 2020. Thank you to all the amazing writers who applied.

WHAT IS THE EWF AT HOME RESIDENCIES?

Time is our mink, our Lexus, our mansion. In a room full of writers of various kinds, time is probably the only thing that can provoke widespread envy more than acclaim.
“Imposter” by Alexander Chee

In 2020, EWF is proud to announce the launch of the EWF At Home Residencies, a program that supports emerging writers by offering time and financial assistance to work on their craft.

The EWF At Home Residencies will see four emerging writers spending a fortnight working on their writing craft remotely at home, supported by the Emerging Writers’ Festival. The opportunity is open to writers of all genres and styles, including poetry, fiction, non-fiction, scriptwriting, YA, essays and short stories.

Successful applicants will not be expected to produce a complete outcome at the end of their residency but will be encouraged to provide a reflection on their residency in their chosen format, to be shared on EWF’s digital platforms.

Please read the submission guidelines before applying.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

Emerging writers who have not had a full length work published by a commercial publishing house are eligible to apply.

We are prioritising First Nations writers, writers with a disability, writers of colour, and culturally and linguistically diverse writers for this opportunity. One residency slot will be specifically reserved for a First Nations writer, though that does not limit the number of First Nations recipients.

People from regional Victoria and interstate are also strongly encouraged to apply.

RESIDENCY DATES

The residencies will operate for a duration of 2 weeks from October to December 2020.

Please note: There are no set dates for the residency, so successful applicants will be asked to nominate their preferred two-week residency period, which must conclude no later than 18 December 2020.

LOCATION

The selected writers will conduct the residency remotely from their home, studio or other nominated location.
